Elephants Can Remember Their Friends for Many Years

Elephants are very smart animals. They have good memories.

Scientists studied elephants in Africa. They found that elephants can remember other elephants for many years.

When two elephant groups meet, they often touch trunks. This is like saying hello. If they know each other, they become happy and excited.

One study showed that an elephant remembered a friend after 20 years. The two elephants lived in different places for a long time. When they met again, they stayed close and made soft sounds.

Elephants also remember places with water and food. This helps them live in dry areas.

Scientists say good memory helps elephants stay safe and take care of their family. It is one reason why elephants are special animals.
